What the rate does not tell you

The county surtax applies to the first $5,000 of a single item of tangible personal property, while state sales tax applies to the whole amount. On services, admissions, warranties, transient rentals and parking or storage space there is no cap and the surtax applies to everything. The rules page works through both.

If you sell across the region, the county is decided by where delivery happens, not by your address — and for motor vehicles and mobile homes by the purchaser's registered address. The sourcing rules cover the rest.
