About this site

Why a Florida surtax lookup exists and who maintains it.

Last updated . Rates on this site come from Florida Department of Revenue, Form DR-15DSS, Discretionary Sales Surtax Information.

Florida’s sales tax looks simple until you have to charge it. The state rate is 6% and everyone knows that. The county surtax on top is where the work is: 67 counties, rates from 0% to 2%, a $5,000 cap that applies to some transactions and not others, and sourcing rules that follow the delivery rather than the seller.

The Department of Revenue publishes all of this. It publishes it as a PDF, once a year, in a table with no explanation attached.

This site is that table, made usable: pick a county, get the rate, and see the cap and sourcing rules that go with it. Every figure links back to the DOR document it came from, and every county page carries the date a human last checked it.

Who it is for

Bookkeepers filing DR-15 returns across several counties. Ecommerce sellers shipping into Florida who need a destination rate. Contractors and service businesses working across county lines. Anyone who has opened the DR-15DSS PDF, found their county, and then wondered whether the cap applies to what they are invoicing.

What it is not

It is not tax advice, and it is not a filing service. It is a reference that shows its working. Where we are not certain of something, the methodology page says so.

Updates

Rates are reviewed when the Department publishes a new DR-15DSS each November, and whenever a Tax Information Publication announces a mid-year county change. Every revision is recorded in the change log.
